Hockey Tips from the NYI Alumni

Mike Bossy — Are You Ready

How many times have you heard your parents tell you to be "Ready"; Get "Ready" for school, for supper, for school, for bed. We hear it often because we are not always "Ready". We are doing this or that, thinking of this and that, but we normally are never "Ready."

"Ready" applies in hockey also and is very important. Make sure you are "Ready" in every hockey situation:

"Ready" to be on the ice in time is very important. Nothing is more frustrating than to have someone that is always late. You are holding everybody up, and every minute of practice is important.

Always be "Ready" on the bench. Do you know why there are so many "too many men on the ice penalties"? Players or coaches aren't "Ready" for line changes; it is as simple as that.

"Ready" on the ice. Always be "Ready" to receive a pass when a teammate has the puck and he is looking for someone to pass it to. Always be "Ready" to shoot the puck. I don't know how many times I have seen players get the puck in the most perfect spot in the offensive zone and not be "Ready" to shoot the puck.

Being "Ready" is all about your concentration and focus. We must be prepared to apply both of those when we play the game of hockey. During a game everything comes at you at lightning speed. Be "Ready for it".

Enjoy the game!!!!!!!!
